French Cancan by Mademoiselle C was published to Ravelry last month and this little gem was instantly added to my queue. I had already knit Ceramic Flowers by the same designer and looked forward to working another one of her straightforward, well-written patterns. Actual casting on was delayed for a few weeks as I took time to decide on the perfect yarn – one that would yield both a lovely drape and a good stitch definition for that beautiful scrolling cabled edge. I finally settled on Metalico in Opal from Blue Sky Alpacas – a sport weight single-ply blend of alpaca and silk. The finished shawl is light and ethereal but still with enough weight to feel substantial around the neck and shoulders. An added bonus? The delicate subtle sheen produced by the yarn’s silk content. A win in so many ways!
