Hi everyone, Amalia here! I’m very happy to announce that Espace Tricot will once again be participating in Spinzilla this year. I’m thrilled to be our Team Captain and can’t wait to share my enthusiasm for this craft.
I have long been attracted to spinning as a craft – the idea of turning a tuft of roving into soft, even, thread seemed incredibly satisfying to me. For a long time, though, I put my interest on hold, waiting for the right moment to learn this new skill – until last year’s Spinzilla that is. It was Espace Tricot’s first time participating and I jumped at the chance to learn the basic techniques on a drop spindle and wheel. Needless to say, I took to it like a duck to water. Since then, I have become the proud owner of two drop spindles, a spinning wheel (Schacht Ladybug), and a growing stash of roving! In addition to the act of spinning itself, I have also become fascinated by the history and traditions associated with this craft and have been reading as much as I can on the subject. I have very much been looking forward to Spinzilla 2016!
Spinzilla is a global event that is held once a year in October to help promote spinning and the fiber arts. The goal of this friendly challenge is to see which team (or inidividual) can spin the most yarn, either on a spinning wheel or a drop spindle, in a week. While this event is a great opportunity to get our spinning friends together, Espace Tricot looks forward to continuing to support the spinning community with spinning nights throughout the year as well as increased stocking of tools and fibers.
Whether you are an experienced or novice spinner we encourage you to join us for Spinzilla. We will be here to teach and encourage you as well as provide you with useful tips and tricks.
We are very excited to build our team for Spinzilla 2016! The competition week itself runs from October 3rd through 9th. Spinner registration is from September 1st through the end of the month. If you are a spinner and would like to participate, please let us know! It is not necessary to be in Montreal or to be able to come into the shop, virtual members are also welcome. Teams fill up quickly, so be sure to let us know as soon as possible!
If you would like further information about this event or are keen to sign up for Team Espace Tricot, please do not hesitate to contact us via e-mail or at 514-486-5648!
