NEW FREE PATTERNS!

We have two new free patterns for you this month!

THE COMFORT ZONE

The Comfort Zone is exactly what the name implies – a soft and warm halo of happiness that is a joy to knit but an even greater pleasure to wear! Knit in the round from the top down featuring twisted rib at neck, sides, and hem, this is a quick and satisfying project that will keep you toasty all winter long. The split hem, slightly longer in back, lends a modern profile and added coziness. Perfect for lounging with your knitting, a good book, or Netflix in the evenings but stylish enough to wear at the office, running errands, or to out to dinner. For deliciously light and airy results, we highly recommend CaMaRose Snefnug – a lovely blend of alpaca, cotton, and merino.

French version of pattern coming soon!

SUBTLE INTERRUPTION SHAWL

Subtle Interruption is our take on a classic wardrobe staple that can be draped over the shoulders and worn as a lightweight shawl, or wrapped around the neck for a cozy winter scarf! Knit with Biches & Bûches Petit Lambswool, the fabric of this shawl is smooth, light and airy which creates a layer of warmth without the bulk. The shawl takes the shape of an inverted isosceles trapezoid where 2 sts are increased every right side row and where the stockinette fabric is interrupted by a subtle slip stitch pattern.

Aussi disponible en français.

Have you seen our latest free patterns?

We have two new patterns for you! Both are available as FREE downloads on Ravelry 🙂 One is perfect for warmer weather while the other will keep you cozy all winter long…

European Road Trip Shawl By Lisa Di Fruscia

A beautiful warm-weather accessory, our European Road Trip shawl is a simple parallelogram. It’s delicate yet rustic aesthetic was achieved by knitting Jade Sapphire SYLPH, a light fingering weight blend of cashmere (52%) and linen (48%), on 4 mm needles. Basic increases and decreases are used to obtain the sloped points at either end.

Finished dimensions are 80 inches x 24 inches (point to point).

Gateway to Rustic by Melissa Clulow

Our Gateway to Rustic cowl pattern has just been added to Ravelry!  As the name implies, this pattern serves as a gentle introduction to a more rustic yarn (Tukuwool), especially for those who love working with softer hand-dyed superwash yarns. While the Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles and Shibui Knits Silk Cloud provide softness and luxury, this pattern is a great way to test-drive woolier, less processed yarns in combination to discover their unique properties. In this case, the Tukuwoo Fingeringl lends lovely structure, gorgeous colour, and lofty warmth. Before you know it, you’ll be chatting breed-specific qualities while you dash off stranded mittens and yoked sweaters 😀!

New Espace Tricot pattern: The Cooler Side of Warm

We have a new FREE pattern for you this week! The Cooler Side of Warm is a cozy cowl knit from the bottom up. It begins with 1×1 ribbing knit flat and then is joined to be worked in the round. As a result, it has a split-hem on one side that allows it to sit comfortably on the shoulder and lie flat against the back and chest. It is finished with 1×1 rib on a smaller needle to prevent gaping at the neck.

Woolfolk Far makes this functional beauty exquisitely soft and decidedly sophisticated. Turn down part of the ribbing and attach a Latch Leather Closure from Jul Designs to add a little attitude 🙂 . We have lots of Far in stock at the moment (the pattern requires 3 skeins) and a new shipment of leather closures from Jul is on the way!

See additional photos and project details and access the free pattern on our Ravelry page!

New free pattern: Fast Track!

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fast-track

We have another free pattern for you this week! Fast Track is a striking scarf that, as its name suggests, works up gratifyingly quickly with superbulky Madelinetosh ASAP on large needles. The “racing” stripe along one side adds some edge to the simple design. Our version is super long for maximum Dr Who-like impact. However, if you prefer a shorter length, two skeins (instead of 3) of the main colour will yield a scarf of about 70” (not including the fab fringe!).

Get all the details, exact yardages, and more photos on Ravelry.

New free pattern from Espace Tricot: Cozy Up

As the cold weather winds its way towards us, this thick and squishy throw in Cascade Yarns Mondo is just the right partner to cozy up to! Knit on 25.0 mm (US 50) needles, it works up in a flash and makes a great statement piece draped over a sofa or your favourite armchair! The superfine alpaca and wool blend of Mondo gives it an airy yet substantial fabric that makes you want nothing more than to cuddle up with it on cool evenings. Choose four different colours, knit it all in one colour, or choose three skeins of one colour and then work a contrasting stripe. Any combination will be fabulous!

Click here for additional project details and to download the pattern on Ravelry.

New free pattern: Flying Solo

We have another new free pattern for you this week!

FLYING SOLO is a chic and minimalist unisex ribbed cowl knit with three colours of Artfil Solo.  Two strands are held together throughout the project with one strand being changed at a time to create a series of ombre stripes. The cowl is knit from the bottom up with the front and back flap knit separately and then joined to knit in the round.

While we chose a neutral palette, we think this cowl would be stunning worked up with a series of saturated and/or speckled hand-dyed Solo colourways in brights and jewel tones.

Artfil Solo is a lusciously soft fingering weight single-ply merino – a perfect choice for accessories and garments that will be worn next to the skin.

Designed by Yana Petrova of ARTFIL for Espace Tricot.

It can be pulled down over one or both shoulders and the neck will remain snug and close without gaping. Knit with Woolfolk LUFT, a luscious and ultra-soft blend of Ultimate Merino and cotton. Chic, modern, functional, and easy-peasy.

Video Tutorial

Although a very simple design, the Chevron Baby Blanket pattern uses one or two stitches that have confused some beginner knitters.  We’re happy to let you know that a video tutorial explaining all aspects of the blanket from long-tail cast-on to casting off and blocking has been published to YouTube by iKNITS. We hope many of you will find this helpful!

Pattern sneak peek / Upcoming Class!

Espace Tricot has a new linen laceweight shawl pattern in the works! We’re just adding the final touches and having it translated before we share it with the world. Jocelyn Malric, the designer, will be teaching a class focused on this beauty beginning June 6th.  See her course description below.

🙂

Call us at 514-486-5648 to register if you’re interested in joining in!

PETIT LIN SHAWL (Bilingual Class)
Jocelyne Malric
$96
Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:30, June 6, 13, 20

I designed this light and airy shawl especially for Espace Tricot and their new exclusive line of lace weight linen yarn. The design of the shawl is a fun introduction to lace knitting and features a creative construction and binding off of two similar triangles. It can be done in one or two colors. The sizing is easily adjustable to accommodate yardages from 1200 yds to 2000 yds. Required materials: pattern (free), solid color lace weight linen yarn (2 skeins of 600 yds each), 3mm (24” or 32”) circular needles. Pre-requisites: cast on, knit, purl. You should be an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter to be comfortable in this class.

New free pattern from Espace Tricot: Summer Commitment

Lisa’s Summer Commitment bag has just been added to Ravelry! This is a larger version of our Summer Fling Bag. It is the perfect bag for strolling around town, going to market, or a day at the beach (yes, believe it or not, those days are just around the corner). The bottom is knit flat and then stitches are picked up for knitting the main body in the round. Straps are then knit flat one at a time and are joined using Kitchener stitch. If you wish to knit a cross-body style bag then an extra skein of Kilim yarn will be required.

Mayu – A new free pattern from Espace Tricot

mayu4

Mayu is an easy to wear pullover that is perhaps best described as a stylish poncho with sleeves. The tweediness of the Fine Donegal and the soft halo of the Silk Cloud combine to create a beautiful fabric that is both slightly rustic and decidedly sophisticated. Cozy and chic!

The left back of sweater is knit first, stitches for right half are picked up from cast on edge. Front is knit separately. After sewing up the sweater, the turtleneck is added by picking up stitches around the neck opening.

New (free) pattern from Espace Tricot: Simple Modern Throw

blanketa01

So, calling this a pattern may be stretching things a little but we received so many requests for specifics after Lisa blogged about knitting it for her home that we had to share this very simple recipe. A modern colour-block throw works in just about any space, and soft and squishy garter stitch always brings warmth and comfort. Lisa decided on a 1/3 to 2/3 split for her version but this is an opportunity to play with colour.  Do equal halves or use more than two colours! It’s a mindless, soothing project that lends itself well to knitting in company or while watching TV.  A perfect choice for calming frayed nerves. 🙂

New free pattern from Espace Tricot: Wrapped in Lino

wrapped_in_lino7

Wrapped in Lino is similar to our Kigali Nights Shawl but is much wider and larger, and the whole piece is knit in stockinette. It remains a parallelogram with both ends knit using short rows to create sloped lines. The pattern is easily modified by casting on more or less stitches and changing the length of the stockinette section. This, however, will affect the required yardage.

A lovely, elegant shawl that can be dressed up or down. Perfect on cool summer evenings or in air-conditioned spaces.

Pattern available in English and French!

Easy breezy summer tanks

It always amazes us when customers mention that their knitting is a seasonal affair, a passion that they tuck away during the spring and summer, seemingly unaware that there is an alternate universe brimming with exquisite fibres and beautiful patterns designed specifically for the warmer months.  We derive so much pleasure from our knitting that we could never envision a scenario in which we didn’t have something (something!) on our needles, maintaining our equilibrium, at all times. That said, and because it is our duty to enable and inspire, we are sharing patterns over the next weeks perfect for keeping your needles moving from April through August! 🙂

Today, a focus on tank tops…
